A gold star mother is a blue star mother who has lost a son or daughter in service to the United States military. A gold star is placed over the blue star on the banner so that the rim of the blue star still shows. A group of gold star mothers met in 1928 and formed the organization Gold Star Mothers, Inc (AGSM). You must apply for membership to join the organization.
